This was the BEST decision I ever made in college! Past Review

Kingston University: London - Direct Enrollment & Exchange

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
First off, I want to say, that I am super close with my family and they provide so much support. In this experience, I learned that I can survive on my own. Yes, your parents and family are always there for you, but you just learn so much about yourself when they are not close by. Not only did I make life long friends from all over, but I also met my husband while studying aborad. I was able to explore the UK, Europe and even ventured into Africa. It was such an eye opening experience and I think everyone should study abroad. I am definitely not the same person I was before I studied abroad.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

It was such a great experience to learn in a different environment. Most classes were set up where you had a lecture, and then later a seminar to discuss or ask questions about the lecture. Typically classes had one exam at the end or paper at the end, so your grade was based on one performance item. This of course has its pros and cons. I actually ended up liking it, because I was not stressed out during the semester and was able to travel to various places. In my studies, I took courses of interest to me, as I could not take classes in my major. Other students I know in the same program had very difficult course loads for business and architecture programs.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The faculty and staff for our program were great. I know one of the administrators of the program retired a year or two after I studied there. A class was held the first semester called British Life and Culture, where we learned about the English culture. They arranged various trips for us to go on, and even had Thanksgiving for us. They really did a fantastic job!

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

No complaints here. :-) We lived in a small 3 story flat on campus, with 8 people per floor. Each individual had their own room and 2 bathrooms were available on each floor. There was also a kitchen on each floor.

* Food:

Let's face it, England is not known for having good food. If you like pub food, fish and chips, you are good to go. I mostly shopped at the local markets for fresh fruits and veggies. I loved this. You could just walk to the city center and have so many yummy foods available.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

The pubs, the culture, what is there not to love about London! London also makes a great jumping off point to travel elsewhere in Europe, etc.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Language

If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?

Direct Enrollment/Exchange
