Study and intern abroad with the Institute for Study Abroad on the University of Edinburgh Parliamentary Internship program! Can you imagine setting agendas for an MP meeting with the Security Council or co-authoring investigative reports for a campaign initiative? As an Intern in the Scottish Parliament, you will take Political Science courses from a top-ranked European university while completing research and interning with a Member of the Scottish Parliament.

What the University of Edinburgh Parliamentary Internship has to offer

-  Pairs students with Members of Scottish Parliament for unparalleled access to political life in Scotland
-  An opportunity to pursue independent research and participate in political activity
-  Course work component balances participation in the development of Scottish political life with learning about the history and culture of Scottish society
-  Participants spend a large part of the internship semester at Parliament but still participate in university life, clubs and campus social life
-  Weekly orientation sessions help students become familiar with their internship duties and determine research possibilities.
-  Although University of Edinburgh has no formal requirements for student background, the university may give preference to applicants with a history of involvement in politics, either through coursework or extracurricular activities

IFSA Scholarships

Any student applying to an IFSA-Butler program can apply for our general scholarship awards, which are $500 for a summer program, $1,500 for semester study, and $2,000 for the full year. We also offer special opportunities such as First Generation College Student scholarships and a Fill the GAP study abroad savings program that matches contributions up to $1,000. Plus, any student attending a public institution or an MSI (minority serving institution) is automatically eligible for either the IFSA State School Grant or the IFSA MSI Grant. Both are worth $2,000 off the program price.

Guidelines/Requirements:
Any student who applies for an IFSA-Butler program may apply for a scholarship by completing a scholarship application. This is separate from the general IFSA-Butler program application.
