CISabroad (Center for International Studies): Athens - Semester in Greece

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I became more globally aware. I took a step back from my own life and really realized what is and isn't important.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 1 month - 6 months

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The classes were easier in my opinion. Less stress thats forsure.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The program administration in Greece was extremely passionate and was there at our disposal whenever we needed her. I couldn't have been more thankful.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Overall the living arrangements were really great. We stayed with a place called Athens Way Apartments that has a hotel about 2 blocks away. The hotel provided us with free breakfast everyday which was convenient. We also had maids that came twice a week.

* Food:

Everything in Greece was so fresh and amazing tasting. It was hard to find something I didn't like.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

The culture was absolutely amazing. I have never met a more friendly culture.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

Usually if you were sick, you'd just got to the pharmacy (they were everywhere) and they would get you what you needed.

* Safety:

Even though Athens might be known to be dangerous I always felt safe. I never went anywhere by myself.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Greece gave me everything and more, I would do anything to relive my time there.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not very easy, only because I didn't hold myself back from anything and saved a lot of money prior to leaving.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? Around $430
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Save as much money as you possibly can before you go abroad. When I was gone I didn't want to hold myself back from anything so I made sure I saved a lot of money.
