I think that I have an idea of what I

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

I think the problem was that I was trying to experience a different culture and meet people as well as learning Arabic. Balancing those two was difficult for me. I learned a lot, but more than just in terms of academics. You cannot put a grade on that though. Not focusing on class work entirely certainly affected my performance.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Accessibility was fine and they seemed to find a good balance between being involved and giving everyone freedom to exploore

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

* Food:

There are Safeways, American food chains there, and these are easier on your stomach especially if you make the food yourself. You should expect your stomach to react to the food negatively if you buy local food from some establishments, it affects almost everyone at first.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I liked all the excursions, the Wadi Rum and Petra excursions were my favorite. I thought the Mount Nebo expedition was interesting too.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

I did not have any serious medical problems while I was there. I thought the advice about security was helpful such as when a protest was going on and when to avoid downtown. I thought the city seemed fairly safe.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?

Language acquisition improvement?

Many people spoke English to varying degrees

Other Program Information

* Where did you live?

Select all that apply

  • Apartment
* Who did you live with?

Select all that apply

  • Americans

A Look Back

* What did you like most about the program?
  • I liked the excursions and cultural learning I did, also the non academic experiences of living in Jordan
* What could be improved?
  • I think that colloquial learning class needed to focus more on dialogue and less on vocabulary
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? You will come back with stories some you may remember for the rest of your life. Expect to make mistakes, have challenging academic experiences. You should try and get outside your comfort zone, go on excursions outside the program.
