CEA CAPA Education Abroad: London, England

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
There is too much that I learned to summarize it all... it was definitely worth it. I gained totally new skills for my professional life and new skills in general plus insight about myself and global cities.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 6 months+

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The academic aspect was relatively easy compared to courses at home. The CAPA building has small library with some books for the classes offered. What I really liked a lot though was how each class really emphasizes (and some even require bi-weekly field trips) getting out into London and exploring and experiencing the city.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I couldn't have asked for a better housing location.

* Food:

We had to be responsible for our own food, so each day depended on what we wanted.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

Courses were not integrated with local students, so it was more difficult to really become integrated with local culture. However, it isn't impossible to put yourself into the less touristy places of London and experience that part of it.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

I did not have any healthcare experiences, so I can't really comment on it.

* Safety:

As long as you are careful and use common sense, you will feel very safe. CAPA also was good at providing advice if a situation arose, like protests, for what we should do as American students.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Keep track of your money, otherwise it can disappear very fast in London.

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? No
