Brigham Young University: Cambridge University Programme

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I gained confidence in my academic skills, made deep and lasting friendships, and enjoyed seeing lots of Britain.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 6 months+

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

Very rigorous and challenging, while still really enjoyable. The library resources were underwhelming and I found it much more difficult to do research than at my home institution

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The program directors did seem to know what was going on, but I was frustrated that they didn't share information with us in a timely manner. We didn't receive our schedules until arrival, and found out information about rips and activities sometimes too late to take advantage of them.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

* Food:

The food was fine for English standards.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

If I hadn't been attending a local church, I wouldn't have gotten to know any Cambridge locals. I enjoyed that part of my experience, but that wasn't what the program was designed for.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

I had no issues with healthcare.

* Safety:

I felt very safe.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

* Was housing included in your program cost? Yes
* Was food included in your program cost? Yes
Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? 150
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Living in England is expensive! Don't eat out because you'll end up with money left on your CUS card.

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? No
