About

Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland, 3-week winter session, (open to all)

Students will travel to Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland to participate in courses on the History of the Jews of Europe and on East European Culture and Film. They will participate in various excursions related to Jewish History included trips to UNESCO World Heritage sites such as the Auschwitz Death Camp, one of the famous Schindler’s Factories, and the Old Jewish Quarter in Prague, Czech Republic.

In the city of Krakow, field trips included the Wieliczka Salt Mine, the largest and oldest salt mine in Europe.  In continual operation from the thirteenth century until 2007, the mine's attractions include dozens of statues, three chapels and an entire cathedral that has been carved out of the rock salt by the miners.  Also a famous attraction in Krakow, the Underground Market, which lies under the main Market Square of Krakow, is an underground museum and archaeological-architectural preserve.  This unique complex exhibits traces of settlements from nomadic times and relics of medieval construction and is a vibrant center for historical, archaeological, and conservatorial education.
