Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

It was hard to adjust to a place with a different level of competitiveness amongst students.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The program director Bernadette Houldworth was incredible. She was helpful in all ways possible. Whether we had school, personal, or home problems, she was there to help us. We were warned that the educational system there was significantly more relaxed than in the U.S. However, they helped us find courses that would best fit our needs.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

The host mother did all she could to help me feel more at home than anything. This included buying foods I liked and cooking what she knew I would eat.

* Food:

I was always fed appropriately. If i was very hungry, they made sure I had the food I needed. If I didn't like something, I made sure to let her know (politely) and she didn't cook it for me again.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

The program hosted a variety of programs to help us better learn the local culture. This includes overnight or day trips.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

I rarely felt unsafe. I felt especially safe when accompanied by friends, but if this was not possible, I felt just fine.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
Language acquisition improvement?

Host parents, other program students, program directors/workers, and classmates. English was spoken in limited occasions.

If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?
