About

Oaxaca is a fascinating colonial city surrounded by lush mountains and indigenous villages. It is an ideal location for Spanish language study and cultural immersion. Students are enrolled at the University of Oaxaca (UABJO), established in 1827 as one of the first universities in Mexico. The UABJO offers a wide variety of classes in both English and Spanish with electives such as Art and Literature classes, as well as Medical Spanish and Public Health. Arcos Learning Abroad offers short and long term programs for students of all majors, as well as opportunities for volunteering and internships.

Arcos Learning Abroad ensures students have ample opportunities to gain rich insight into the country and language by organizing cultural activities and excursions. Students will explore indigenous villages and colonial Oaxaca City with its welcoming plazas and inspiring architecture. Students will discover the ancient past of the pre-Hispanic cultures still alive today, such as the Zapotecs and the Mixtecs; as well as visit Monte Albán Pyramids, Hierve El Agua Mountain Springs, and local artisan markets. Cultural activities include city tours, latin dance classes, a traditional cooking class, and art workshops. During the fall semester students experience a truly authentic Day of the Dead celebration. Housing is with carefully selected homestays. All homes have Wi-Fi.
