Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

studying at the American College of Thessaloniki was an amazing experience that I would highly recommend. The academics are quite laid back and the campus, professors, students, and city are all incredibly memorable. The geography of the campus is beautiful; it is in the mountains overlooking the city and the Aegean sea. The campus is also quite small and has a strong feeling of community. The administration and professors are very down to earth and genuine. They encourage travel and cultural immersion and understand that you are there to do much more than just study. I love how they get to know all of the individual students and truly care about your experience and overall wellbeing. The city of Thessaloniki is also perfect for study abroad. The clubs stay open until the sun rises, the food and shopping is exceptional, and the boardwalk views will leave you mesmerized. This is a very youthful city and you will not run out of new exciting things to do. It is also very safe. I learned so so much about life and this experience changed my perspective and life forever. If you're thinking about studying at ACT just do it, you will not regret it.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Amazing people! They are very genuine and caring people and truly see to care about your experience and overall wellbeing.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Pretty good location, close to everything you might need and many good bars and restaurants. I wish it would have been closer to the main city center. It is a lot of fun living at Alexandrias and the RAs are very fun and helpful.

* Food:

Thessaloniki is the food capital of Greece, and for good reasons. There are countless great restaurants of every cuisine. Also, very cheap street food.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I felt very integrated into the local because I took inniative to do so. Be sure to make friends with the local Greek students, they are very friendly and will show you the best parts of the city. There are always events going on throughout the city that will immerse you in the culture as well.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

The doctor at ACT is not like a doctor in the US. The hours are short and she will just give you recommendations to other doctors in the city. I have heard great things about the psychologist at the school though.

* Safety:

I have never felt unsafe in this city, even walking alone at night. But of course, like anywhere, be aware of your surrounds and watch your bags and purses on the bus because pickpocketing does happen.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Depending on your lifestyle and how much you travel, you can live here for quite cheap. Eating out is cheaper than the US and groceries are about the same price.
