Advanced Studies England: Bath - ASE Study Centre

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Completely. I feel so comfortable in Europe now. I got to travel a lot, but I also got to enjoy being a Bath resident. I loved it. I think every student should study abroad.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The workload was decent. We only had each class once a week, so I wasn't in the classroom as much, but we had enough work to make up for it. Two essays for each class and final exams at the end of the semester.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

It was a small program, so I got to know the staff really well. They really care about the students. I liked the amount of students and the mix of universities represented, but since we were split up among five different houses, I didn't get to know everyone as well as I would've liked.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I loved living in a house with six other students. We got to live on our own and I really bonded with the girls in my house. I loved the house itself- it was homey and really centrally located. I loved living there.

* Food:

It was interesting having to cook my own meals, but I feel it's actually prepared me well for life after college. I ended up having a grocery shopping routine and learning how much food I need to buy for myself ona weekly basis.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

The program arranged many events that were optional, but huge bonding experiences for the students. We spent a week at Oxford University and three days in Stratford. In addition, many little trips were planned, such as a trip to the Cotswolds and a hiking trip in Wales.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

Bath is extremely safe. I felt very comfortable there. I never walked alone at night, but I didn't feel threatened at all.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? I ended up spending the most money on weekend trips outside Bath.

What was the highest level language course you had completed prior to departure? 300 level English courses
