Scholarship FAQ

A: Abroad101 Scholarship winners are chosen based upon the quality of their essay submission, their academic credentials, and their ability to magnify that idea through the use of social media with Facebook Likes. What this means is that we read through each individual entry to assess the quality, and we look at the Facebook Likes as an additional measure of a students' passion. A student cannot win based on the Essay or Likes alone, but on a successful combination of the two, and they must meet the standards of the program to gain official admission.
A: The purpose of the evaluation criteria is to encourage students to spread the news about their desire to study abroad, and to ultimately engage more people in the conversation about the importance of international education! We see this as a way to measure students' dedication to their cause, as well as their creativity in promoting their passions and dreams of studying overseas.
A: Absolutely! You don't need a Facebook account to encourage other Facebook users to "Like" your unique Scholarship entry. Though this may require a bit more creativity on your part, we "Like" that! Check out this student's successful viral marketing campaign.
A: Yes, you should still apply and you could still win! Our scholarship campaigns have two deadlines so as not to discourage students who enter the contest late in the game. The Entry Deadline means you must have submitted your entry by that date. At that point the scholarship application will be closed to all new entries. Then the applicants will have 5 business days to show their dedication and prove their effectiveness by accumulating as many "Likes" as they can.
A: We have awarded a variety of scholarships to incredibly qualified and deserving students. They range from first-generation college students, who are utilizing the scholarship as a platform to promote diversity in study abroad, to those who are planning on using their experience abroad as a catalyst toward a career in foreign policy. You can get a sense of the quality of our scholarship winners by checking out a recent recipient of a CEA scholarship.
A: To date Abroad101 has held 5 scholarship campaigns, resulting in 17 scholarship recipients receiving a collective total of $54,000! Before the end of the year, Abroad101 will have awarded close to $100,000 in scholarships, enabling deserving students to realize their study abroad dreams!
