Completely! I learned how to be alone in a new country and figure things out for myself. I experienced a new

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

In the beginning I felt a little bit like I was on my own -- not too much support from the administration here.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Great location.

* Food:

It was a little bit hard being a vegetarian here!

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I played rugby which was a good way to meet local people, but it was hard to meet a lot of people during lectures.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

No vaccines needed, no health issues while I've been here.

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

The exchange rate is tricky though -- the cost might sneak up on you if you're not careful.

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? No

Direct Enrollment/Exchange

* Did you study abroad through an exchange program or did you directly enroll in the foreign university? Direct Enrollment

A Look Back

* What did you like most about the program?
  • The difference in course styles. There are bigger classes here and less time spent in lecture halls. (There is a lot of outside work, though)
  • There's a lot of independence.
* What could be improved?
  • I would have liked more information about what my first day was going to look like
  • It would be nice to know where you're living and who you're living with beforehand
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? Sometimes it can be hard to make friends using a direct enrollment program at a large university because there are so many students. Research some student groups to get involved with before coming to campus!

The Avid Adventurer
The wardrobe you packed was better suited for a semester of camping than club hopping. Outdoorsy, you might forgo a crazy night out for an early all-day adventure. You'd rather take in the rich culture of an old town than the metropolis of a modern city, but for you getting off the grid is ideal.
