What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Yes! My experience abroad was fantastic!! My IES friends and I all found ourselves wishing for another four months when the semester came to a close. I met amazing people, had great teachers, learned a lot a lot of Chinese. I would highly recommend the program to anyone interested in China or Chinese! The program is really well run and, I think, accommodating to all sorts of students.

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
Language acquisition improvement?

IES Beijing has a language pledge so all students are required to speak to one another exclusively in Chinese while on campus. The language pledge has great results! On a daily basis I spoke to my teachers, classmates, and local Beijing people in Chinese. The majority of people in the city do not speak English which really forces students to use and improve their Chinese.

If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?
