University Information
Barnard has a rich history and tradition of study abroad dating back to the 1930s. Today, students study abroad in more than 35 countries, from Australia to Tibet. This site details the opportunities available, online resources, and procedures to apply. Please review the information on the website before meeting with the Dean for Study Abroad.
One of the best ways to learn more about what study abroad can offer you academically and personally is from other Barnard students who have studied abroad or who are currently abroad. We invite you to link to reach out to Barnard students who have studied abroad to ask questions about their experience and research which program is right for you.

"It was worthwhile overall, because I made some very close friends both British and American (and French). I figured out my identity more and what I want to do in life, and I gained a whole new dimension to my sense of aesthetics. It also helped me to be more confident when I went abroad again to France."

"Being evacuated from Egypt helped me to learn many things. I was able to put my planning skills to the test and learned that I'm extremely good at organizing myself on short notice. Meeting new people and seeing amazing things just speaks for the sheer power of coincidence and the impact one decision can have on so many lives."
Briana D Barnard College
"Yes, but because the people made it so. The program has a lot of potential and will hopefully improve upon its weaknesses, but know that you will ultimate create your own experience on IHP."

"It was definitely worthwhile. It was one of those tough-love experiences that bestows some wisdom while still having a blast. This is no "semester in Barcelona" program but it doesn't mean you have to be purely academic either. "

"I fell in love with Edinburgh. It is an old and gray and strange city, but I never found it to be depressing, even in the extended winter darkness. It was steeped in history in a way that I found endlessly fascinating. This is a love I'll take with me for the rest of my life. After studying abroad in the UK for one semester, I'm..."

"I gained insight into the perspectives and experiences of an entirely different population than my own. While I did not go somewhere that required that I use a foreign language, I was able to take classes on subjects I had studied at home, but explore them from a completely different perspective. Through studies and travels, I..."
