Yonsei University: Seoul - Direct Enrollment & Exchange

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Yes, it was a very fun experience and it made me want to travel more.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? None

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The classes meant for exchange students were easy to manage and I could understand them. It is very different from Wellesley college classes, except to has more work outside of class due to the lecture style of the classes.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

* Food:

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

Fortunately, I did not have any medical emergencies but people who hold the visa D-2-6 status are automatically enrolled in South Korea's national health insurance. This would be great for students who chose to do a full year abroad but I was only here for a semester. It was a bit frustrating having to navigate that.

* Safety:

South Korea is a very safe country and you do not have to worry much about your safety or the crime rates. Of course, you should always take safety precautions when going out at night but it was very safe in Seoul.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
How much did the program encourage you to use the language?

0 = No encouragement, 5 = frequent encouragement to use the language

It is called the KLI program. It requires a lot of time and effort. The attendance requirement is very strict. Please be very mindful of that if you choose to take part in the program. I did not take this program and have seen it firsthand from other exchange student's experiences at Yonsei University.

How would you rate your language skills at the beginning of the program? Beginner
How would you rate your language skills at the end of the program? Intermediate
What was the highest level language course you had completed prior to departure? N/A
How many hours per day did you use the language?
