Worcester College, University of Oxford - Visiting Students Program

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Yes, it was worthwhile! I got to explore the beautiful city and meet a lot of new people.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 6 months+

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

I was very happy with my living arrangements! I was assigned a single room with a small private bathroom, and bedding and towels were provided.

* Food:

The dining hall food was fine, but since I had access to a kitchen I mostly cooked my own meals. The dining hall was not open for dinner during the September Seminar.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

There weren't many opportunities to integrate with the local culture through the program itself, so I had to look for activities/events on my own.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

I would have loved to stay longer, but I really enjoyed the time that I had.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Many activities through Oxford student orgs cost extra money, so expect that to contribute to expenses.

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? No

A Look Back

* What did you like most about the program?
  • Living on campus + in a good location in the city
  • Having free time to explore the area
* What could be improved?
  • Some communication before the program started - I didn't hear about a lot of things until pretty late in the summer.
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? There are so many Bodleian-associated libraries around the city that you can access with an Oxford student card — I wish I was able to visit more of them while I was there. Also I would have sent in a better student ID photo!

Reasons For Studying Abroad

The Avid Adventurer
The wardrobe you packed was better suited for a semester of camping than club hopping. Outdoorsy, you might forgo a crazy night out for an early all-day adventure. You'd rather take in the rich culture of an old town than the metropolis of a modern city, but for you getting off the grid is ideal.
