Austin College
University Information
Austin College's Center for Global Learning facilitates Semester Abroad Studies and JanTerms. If a student would like to spend a semester abroad with Austin College, the he/she should stop by our office (Wright Campus Center #204) to begin the process. It is extremely important to go through the process in the office, otherwise the College will be unable to send the student's financial aid to the program and the student will need to withdraw from Austin College during their semester or year abroad. The Center's goal is to make each student's experience abroad a meaningful and engaging experience. In order for that to happen, students are required to go through the process in place at the Center.
We look forward to working with you and please read about other student's reviews and experiences at the different programs and locations that can be found at Abroad101.
Important Dates and Deadlines
As of right now, there are no firm deadlines in place for you to complete the Abroad101 Survey. However, before we can post your transcript from your sojourn abroad, you must complete the Abroad101 Survey and interview with the director (Truett Cates).
Thank you very much for your help and cooperation with this. We look forward to hearing about your time and experiences abroad!
"I think the fact that I made 0 French friends my entire time there says it all. Paris was a great place to study, but IES Paris is not a good program in any way, and I strongly advise against it. I had just done IES Tokyo and loved it so I was shocked that it was so different; I should have done more research."

"There were ups and downs during my trip but all-in-all, it was an amazing experience. I would definitly recommend it to anyone who wants to learn about the Renaissance since Florence is where it all started. Also, Florence is pretty central so you can get to most places in Italy for a reasonable price, but traveling to other cou..."

"I learned a lot about myself and relating to other people from different cultures as well as my own. I learned how to be self-reliant but also made some of the best friends of my life. "
A student Austin College
"I learned not only the language and about the culture but about myself and grew much more confident in my own abilities to do things. After living, surviving, and thriving in such a strange place, I now know that I can succeed in my endeavors back home. "

"Language skills, a stronger sense of independence, and that trains are the best thing in the world. I believe it was very worthwhile. I got to experience many things, such as concerts and conventions, that I would not have otherwise been able to experience."

"I had incredible cultural exposure and absolutely loved the topic and conversations I was able to have throughout. I gained a lot of confidence and a more global world view. I wouldn't have traded the experience for anything. I simply wish the staff for the program were more academic, supportive and organized. "

"I talk too much, so it is impossible to fit into here. It was completely worthwhile, I made friends that I am now closer to than anyone back home, experienced completely unique cultural phenomena, etc."
Jayson E Austin College
"I was able to experience both sides of an extremely divided community and to, therefore, better my understanding of global issues. Additionally, I was also able to realize the value of the open-minded education I had received in America. It was definitely worthwhile. "

"I can speak spanish a lot better and easier, I made a lot of new friends because I went without knowing anyone. It forced me to make new friends. Also, living with a host family was great because I got to eat the cultural foods and learn about a spanish family from the inside and learn about how they carry on their day. "

"The whole trip was worthwhile to be able to stay with such an awesome host family, and IES was super amazing and took me to many sites. Those two things really made my experience in Japan special. "

"I had never been out of the country before this experience. I'd never even been out of state without my parents. I attend college an hour and a half from home. I gained so much confidence in my ability to exist independently, separated from everyone and everything that I know. When I first got there, I could not speak to the..."

"I learned so much from this experience! This program was very academically oriented and I felt like I learned so much more with all the hands on experience! The locals were always fun to be around and being next to the ocean and all the marine wildlife was spectacular! I would do it again in a heartbeat! "

"The experiences I had through the IES field trips and my own personal travels in Japan were by far the best thing about my time in Japan. I got to see historical sites and the natural beauty of the country. Kyoto was the best. If you can go to Kyoto, go. Go right now. Also, my language skills at the end of the program were..."

"I gained independence and the ability to navigate in foreign places."

"THe ability to really rely on myself and push myself to my limits. Stepping out of my comfort zone in the Pacific was one of the most beneficial things I could have done for myself. Living with 20 other students forced me to become even more patient and accepting of others who act and think differently than myself. My experience..."

"A different view of life. I'm from a small town in Texas. Berlin is one of the few places that just about anyone can fit in because no one is the same. I've never really experienced that before. It was worthwhile."
