About

Our South India program takes place in Bangalore, Chennai, Kancheepuram, Mahabalipuram, Kumbakonam and Tanjore. The focal point of this program is the spiritual traditions of South India — Hinduism and Jainism.

India is the home of one of the oldest civilizations and several of the world’s great religious traditions. It is a richly woven fabric of ritual, mysticism, art, music and scared architecture. South India is the heartland of Dravidian culture and is a bastion of conservative Hinduism. Some of India’s greatest Hindu temples are in South India and they will be your classroom each day.

During this culturally rich hands-on learning experience you will study the pillars of Indian philosophy and religion – karma, rebirth, yoga, and moksa – liberation. You will study Indian sacred art at the renowned Bronze Museum in Chennai and the Royal Palace Museum in Tanjore that houses masterpieces from the Chola dynasty. Students will learn how these ancient traditions of creating sacred art are still alive today by studying at a local bronze casting foundry.
