About

Join a 25-year research program on wildlife
ecology and island ecosystem management
where coastal marine mammal habitats, a complex
intertidal zone bridging marine/terrestrial
ecosystems, and breathtaking sandy beaches
provide the perfect field site to examine
predator-prey ecology of gray whales, intertidal
zone, and temperate rainforests. Team members will have the unique opportunity to exchange ideas with local experts in the whale watching industry, land use management, local NGOs, and other coastal industries. Our team will have access to specialized scientific equipment to inform our project and on-going research. We will collect samples of invertebrates and fishes, undertake whale surveys using photo ID, prey surveys using plankton nets, and use a CTD to collect data to monitor the mix of fresh and ocean water.
