It was definitely worthwhile! I learned to be more confident and independent, I was basically fluent in Spanish while down in Costa Rica, I met amazing friends, and I tried so many new foods and activities! Allison Lease - Bethany Lutheran College View Entire Review
I learned about a whole new culture and was able to connect to them through learning the language, ministry work, and having a host family that made sure I was always taken care of. It was definitely worthwhile! Kari K - Berea College View Entire Review
About
Students participating in a Veritas Christian Study Abroad program in San José, Costa Rica will be able to experience a Latin American metropolis while also having the rest of Costa Rica's pristine natural wonders at their fingertips. Costa Rica is a utopia for outdoor enthusiasts and beach lovers alike.
Today, over 27 million slaves exist in the world—that’s more than all the years of transatlantic slave trade combined (according to Allies Against Slavery). Human trafficking enslaves men, women, and children in exploitative sex and labor services. Veritas students in Costa Rica may join efforts with local ministry partners for social justice to share the light and hope of the gospel to those involved in trafficking. Students may converse and pray with prostitutes on the streets of San Jose or help rescued victims develop life skills. Students may also work with children and families in need through supplying provisions and building relationships. Students will grow in their faith as they discover what it means to be an international missionary, serve others, and gain a global perspective.
The Mission Mentor disciples Veritas students in their experiences through prayer, reflection, and spiritual support as well as connects them to ministry partners and local churches. The International Missions/Service-Learning Practicum provides a great opportunity to reinforce the cross-cultural missions experience in-country. Students will receive college credits for the reflection activities, journal entries, and cultural research which enhance the overall experience.
For semester programs, students will take the Veritas course Global Mission Perspectives (3 credits), the International Missions/Service-Learning Practicum (1-3), and other courses from the Universidad Veritas to maintain full-time student status.
For summer programs, students will take the International Missions/Service-Learning Practicum and one or two courses at the Universidad Veritas.
