Imagine that you could spend your days working with like-minded people from around the world, learning about the oceans and tropical ecosystems, marine biology, aquaculture, fisheries, scuba diving and conservation.Imagine you could earn an extra A-level in Marine Science, valid anywhere in the world whilst having a CV worthy experience and the adventure of a lifetime.Here at TRACC we offer just that! Our Cambridge Marine Science intensive A-Level course allows you to complete an entire A-level in just 14 weeks. The 360 hours of study required are all undertaken consecutively so that you eat, breathe and sleep marine science until you walk away from the examinations in early May. Nothing in your head is more than three months old. Your real life can’t get in the way. There are no other subjects competing for your brain power. It’s just you, the living breathing marine environment on our doorstep with TRACC’s team of professional scientists behind you.This course has been running since 2012 and our results speak for themselves. 94% of our students obtain a B grade or higher. 28% of our students obtain an A* and our candidates scored Best in the, World in 2015 and 2016 (2017 results unavailable at the time of writing). 

The A-Level Marine Science Course is appropriate for:


  • Pre-university students as an introduction to the subject or for admissions credit.

  • Current students who want to gain extra credit or expand their knowledge base into Marine Science from a related field.

  • Mature students who want to learn more or switch career paths.

  • Divemasters or Dive Instructors who want to learn more.


The program is taught within the structure of the Tropical Research And Conservation Centre (TRACC) conservation volunteer camp on the tiny island of Pom Pom, on the East coast of Sabah, Malaysian Borneo. 

The course begins on 15th January 2017 and runs for 16 weeks until the exams at the end of April. The 16 weeks includes 12 teaching weeks, 1 intensively led revision week, 1 week field trip and a 1 week break. The 12 teaching weeks comprise 5 study days per week, 1 pleasure diving day and 1 dry day.

Each study day includes approximately 6 contact hours divided between lectures, experiments, lab work, field work and observational diving.

The fee is all inclusive, comprising, food, accommodation, transfers, gear, training and one PADI dive courses on top of all the Marine Science teaching, resources and CIE exam fees and a road trip across Borneo!
