About

As you travel throughout Germany and across national borders, you will spend time in Berlin, Niederalteich, Brussels, Cologne, Bonn, Munich, and Maastricht.  Your journey starts in the 2,000-year-old city of Cologne, where you will begin German language classes and get to know your group.  In Bonn, you will visit the Haus der Geschichte to learn about German history and study Germany’s political system and its role in advancing peace, democracy, and human rights in Europe.  You will continue to Belgium, where you will gain fascinating insights into the European Union, a Nobel Peace Prize-winning institution in Brussels, and attend workshops that explore topics related to peacekeeping, anti-discrimination, politics, and the E.U.’s institutional structure.  Then, cross the border into the Netherlands for a trip to the historic city of Maastricht, where the Treaty on European Union was signed.

Your group will then travel to Bavaria, where you will share daily life with a German family during your homestay in Niederalteich and go to school with German students.  You will spend a fun-filled day with your group completing a treasure hunt in the city of Munich.  Finally, you will travel to Berlin, the capital and bustling cultural center, where you will have the opportunity to continue studying German and dive deeper into issues facing the E.U. today.  There, you will visit the Bundestag (Germany’s parliament), learn about the current refugee situation on the Continent, and meet with local youth.
