The Education Abroad Network (TEAN): Townsville - James Cook University

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
You grow so much as a person when you live and submerge yourself into another country. Would not change a single thing about my adventure

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 1 month - 6 months

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

classes were very different than back in the states. You are treated like an adult and are responsible for everything. The classes were much more intense but you did not have ANY busy work. you were responsible to know your stuff before the exams. Overall i liked it much more than how they do it here in the states

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Bianca was awesome!! She really tried to find things we really wanted to do in the area!

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

WE ARE FROM UNI FROM UNI WE ARE!!!! I loved JCU dorms and how they were completely different from school back home. Basically your dorm is its own team against other dorms for sports and fun competitions ! So fun!! I lived in University hall and had a blast!

* Food:

Food was okay. Didnt always like the options and what they had was all you got. On the bright side there was always a sandwich station open!

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

In Townsville you really get a sense of the average day Australian. You are in a little town with no tourists and your really immersed in the culture of it all.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

Never had to deal with healthcare (thank god)

* Safety:

I always felt very safe everywhere I went in Australia. Everyone is so kind, my mom lost her wallet and someone found it and gave it to us with everything inside!

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? Hard to say. Maybe $100 -$200

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
