Amazing Australia Past Review

The Education Abroad Network (TEAN): Sydney - University of Sydney

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I gave a 5 star rating because I came back from this program a different and more independent person with connections to students all over the US and Australia. As a result I am going back to Sydney this June.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The teachers and students at the University of Sydney were all amazing and led to me having a very good academic semester.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The program has an amazing orientation week that explains the ins and outs of Sydney and then they let you go for five months with no interference unless you ask for their help. Perfect blend of safety and separation.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

The train and bus station are a stones throw from the housing accommodations and a six story mall across the street does not hurt either.

* Food:

The food was just like that of the US.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

On orientation week you visit many famous places in Sydney and the surrounding area. There are also many trips you can take, I personally visited Thailand and Fiji.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

I rolled my ankle playing intramural basketball and the hospital in Sydney was very receiving and had me taken care of in hours.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Select all that apply

  • Americans

A Look Back

* What did you like most about the program?
  • Accommodations provided
* What could be improved?
  • Cheaper
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? Go and spend all your time and money as freely as you can because you will never get this time back again. A student with no inhibitions to enjoying life to the fullest will benefit the most.

Comments

Thanks for the review Peter! So great that you are heading back to Sydney. There are a bunch of TEAN alum who are back in Sydney for work, post graduation.
