A One of a Kind Experience! Past Review

The Education Abroad Network (TEAN): Melbourne - University of Melbourne

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Key skills I took away from my study abroad experience were: how to budget, travel independently, and how to adjust to culture shock. Melbourne was a great place to study abroad because there was no language barrier in classes, yet I could always find new cultures to explore and discover. Melbourne has a lot diversity in cultures, environments, and lifestyles making it one of the best cities to live in. I fell in love with the city of Melbourne and would consider moving back in the future!

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

University of Melbourne is one of the best schools in Australia!

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

TEAN makes studying abroad so easy and fun! Having Resident Directors available to all students made the whole experience more personal!

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

We lived in the heart of Melbourne's CBD (Central Business District, or downtown), which was amazing. This enabled us to participate in many city events and catch public transport around the Melbourne area easily.

* Food:

The City of Melbourne has FABULOUS food around every corner!

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

You really need to put in the effort to make Australian friends because many/most of them are commute students.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

I never had any issues, but my roommate found the process very easy to navigate.

* Safety:

I almost always felt safe in Melbourne, even at night.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Australia can seem a little expensive, but shopping at the Queen Victoria Market and Aldi helped save for food expenses.

Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Even if your budget is tight, there are always events and activities going on in the city. Educate yourself about what is going on and your weekends will be filled with unforgettable experiences.
