France Study Abroad Reflections: Comprehensive Reviews of Past Programs

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
Life changing! Incredible! You don't realize how much you have changed until the last few weeks.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The workload was very reasonable, but yet was not always a breeze. There was enough time to finish most of your work during the week and use the weekends to travel or just have free time in Aix. The grading system is adjusted for American standards.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Always answered any questions.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

My host family was very nice however I definitely was not treated as a family member, which for me was unfortunate, but for people who don't want a homestay this situation would be perfect as we only saw the family for dinner.

* Food:

Loved all the food I had. Incredible meals. IAU students tend to live off of Pizza Capri.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

Loved the excursions.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

Always felt safe in Aix.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?

Language acquisition improvement?

Practice French as much as possible with everyone...host family, vendors, professors, etc. Most people in the city didn't speak English with me. However fellow students tend to speak English with each other.
