China Study Abroad Reflections: Comprehensive Reviews of Past Programs

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
It was very worthwhile. I learned a lot about the country and about how to get around in a place where I don't speak the language.

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 0-2 weeks

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The workload in China was a little tough but doable. I had American instructors, so I didn't have to deal with educational system differences.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The instructors knew what they were doing.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

* Food:

Eggplant, green beans, and rice was my favorite meal.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

Visiting most of the sites on our own was overwhelming at first, but I think it was better than seeing them all as a group would have been.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

Everywhere seemed very safe. There were no incidents. I got flu and hepatitis A shots before leaving the US.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)
