I learned about Italian culture and fell in love with it. I gained Italian language skills which I no longer use but certainly helped in learning other languages. I now teach English abroad and I often reflect on my time spent in Tuscania as the best language learning situation I have experienced. About
The historic hilltop town of Tuscania is located in the Lazio region of central Italy, in the breathtaking countryside of the Maremma (south from Florence and not far from Rome). The LdM Tuscania campus is situated in an elegantly modern structure in the old town center that is incorporated into the medieval stonewalls. Reading rooms, classrooms, exhibition space, studios, a library, and a computer lab fill the renovated, Wi-Fi equipped interior. The facilities also include a small courtyard and a state-of-the art culinary classroom for courses in Mediterranean cuisine.
Courses: Tuscania presents the ideal location for the study of Italian language, through its full immersion philosophy. The curriculum is designed to embrace the town’s historical, artistic and cultural heritage, including such courses as Etruscan, Roman and Medieval history, agriculture, archaeology and classical studies, fine arts, culinary arts, studio and performing arts, creative writing, literature, and Italian language. Each summer, archaeology field school students in Tuscania participate in an ongoing excavation of an Etruscan necropolis, in collaboration with the University of Florence.
