What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I gained a LOT from going abroad and emphatically recommend it to anyone thinking about it. I learned about who I was outside of being an academic, which was really important new information that I wouldn't have received at my home university.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

This is tough to answer. I didn't like Jacobs very much in terms of how intense (or lack thereof) the classes were. When I was there, I didn't feel like I was in Germany because the campus has a very american culture to it. It's really amazing to be able to travel so easily and cheaply. The host family program set up by Jacobs is also amazing!! I was also able to do research in my interest, which was very nice.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

  • Intensity of classes
  • I wish professors respected students more
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? It's a lot different from my home university. I think it was marketed as being very similar, but the professors were less skilled and less invested in their classes.

Reasons For Studying Abroad

The Avid Adventurer
The wardrobe you packed was better suited for a semester of camping than club hopping. Outdoorsy, you might forgo a crazy night out for an early all-day adventure. You'd rather take in the rich culture of an old town than the metropolis of a modern city, but for you getting off the grid is ideal.
