Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

My class only had 9 girls in it total. We did not have a lot of homework, but when we did we interviewed people in spanish or had to write a short paragraph. The grading was fine. We only had 2 tests total and I felt prepared for both. The teaching method was different because my teachers did not teach out of a book, they taught on what we wanted to learn and where we were at academically. We never had to turn in things for a grade, and the teachers were laid back and the class time was not really structured. I liked it that way because we talked a lot in spanish and learned useful things.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The orientations were very helpful. The hotels we stayed in during our excursions were very nice. They were always helpful with anything we needed. The teachers were amazing. The class size was perfect and my expectations were definitely met.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

My host family was amazing. I lived with one lady and she took great care of us. I felt like she really helped me improve in the language and culture. She treated us like we were her own children. The house was very nice and I liked that I got to meet her extended family and grandchildren.

* Food:

The food my host mom made for us was wonderful! We did not eat out very much, but when we did I tried new things! I ate caracoles which are snails and I had tapas a few times.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

I loved every excursion we went on. My favorite was Granada and Cadiz. I learned a lot during the tours and I loved seeing the Alhambra..it was beautiful.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

The city was very safe! We stayed out very late and never had issues with taxi drivers or when we walked home. I did get sick after I went to Morrocco, but my host mom took great care of me. I did not need any vaccines for the program.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
Language acquisition improvement?

I practiced the language during class, at stores, with my host mom, with friends, and at bars and discotecas.
