Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

I loved the classes much more in Costa Rica compared to the ones here at Umass. There was two students in one of my classes, four in another, and a total of 8 in the last one. I had much more individual attention and learned much more probably than I would've in the states.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

Seidy was our director at ULACIT. I liked her about a 4/10. She thought I was the cause of some trouble that occurred during one of our excursions and until she found out it wasn't me gave me the stink eye for a week or so. She tried to laugh alot and be nice, but in reality she dodged all our host families the last week and didn't tell them that they weren't getting new students because the program was moving. That was just uncalled for. I know in particular my family relied on the small amount of money the program provided.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Everything I pretty much needed I was given. I can't say anything bad about this department.

* Food:

I'm not going to lie, I am a picky eater. However, pancakes everyday and spaghetti two times a week alternating with a hamburger is unacceptable. I wish my host mom tried to use a little more variation and less oil.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

I got robbed three times. Two of the three were my fault. It was not always the safest place.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? No

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
Language acquisition improvement?

Mostly with my roomate and my spanish teacher. I had spanish for two hours and fifteen minutes a day.

If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?
