About

Financial Aid is available for eligible students. IPSL also accepts AmeriCorps Segal Education awards.

¿Hablas español?

IPSL's Colombia program is completely customizable! You will be based in the beautiful and bio-diverse coffee growing region of Chinchiná where you will study Spanish and volunteer with local grassroots organization. You can also choose to take academic courses, some of which will include visits to the vibrant, modern city of Medellín &/or the sunny, historic, colonial city of Cartagena on the edge of the turquoise Caribbean Sea. Even if you don't take courses, IPSL can build in quick visits to either so that you can experience these amazing places.

IPSL’s language and volunteering program offers participants an opportunity to study language and, if they choose, do an internship, preceptorship or volunteer service within the host community. Research opportunities may also be available. What better way to maximize your exposure to the language and culture than through volunteering with locals?!? The program is completely customizable, which means that YOU create a language program (with IPSL’s assistance) that perfectly suits your interests, needs, goals and budget.

Volunteer opportunities are generally available in the following areas:

  • Local foundation supporting Afro-Colombian communities

  • Social services for peoples affected by the narco conflict

  • Peace and reconciliation policy work

  • Home and community building projects for low-income neighborhoods

  • Primary and secondary education in a low-income neighborhood

  • Medicine/health placements in a local, Tier II hospital

Students live in Chinchiná at the IPSL partner NGO communal home with other with a private or shared bedroom and shared bath and kitchen. Meals are provided and prepared for you. Homestays may also be arranged if requested and available.
