Overall Experience
I learned how to be adaptable. I easily adapted and immersed into a new culture, a new language, and a completely new style of life which I soon called one of my own. I made tons of friends and shared many memories that I will remember forever and have left behind remnants of a place that is another home to me. - Bowdoin College View Entire Review
Past Review Experience
As this was my first real trip overseas, I learned that I can survive and be independent in a different country—a tremendously invaluable ability. For that alone it was worthwhile. - Franklin & Marshall College View Entire Review
My experience in Madrid was extremely worthwhile. Increased knowledge of Madrid and the rest of Spain and left the country with a far more advanced proficiency in Spanish than when I started. Developed a greater sense of independence and maturity traveling throughout Spain and Europe and navigating various cities. - Connecticut College View Entire Review
It was definitely worthwhile. I learned a lot about taking every opportunity and getting out and experiencing things. - Trinity University View Entire Review
I grew up so much during my time abroad. I learned how to manage my money, live on my own, use public transportation efficiently, and overall take care of myself. More than that, I grew up emotionally. I discovered what and who in my life is the most important, and what things matter more than others. By the end of the trip, I f... - Villanova University View Entire Review
I learned about other cultures, practices and customs. I gained knowledge about the world around me, myself, and a new language. The experience abroad was amazing and I would go back in a heart beat. - The University of Texas at Austin View Entire Review
I would say I'm more outgoing and adventurous now. Spanish lifestyle is fairly laidback you have to go with the flow. They have this saying in Madrid "No pasa nada". Madrileños say it all the time. It means "Don't worry about it. Everything's gonna be okay". Even though it made my senior year schedule slightly less flexible, goi... - Tufts University View Entire Review
I gained a global perspective, Spanish skills, and an appreciation for another culture as well as my own. It was completely worthwhile. - The University of Texas at Austin View Entire Review
It was definitely worthwhile and don't get me wrong I loved the program and the people. If I had to do it again though I would have looked for a program with more of a foreign component that was less Americanized. - The University of Texas at Austin View Entire Review

IES abroad was one of the most formative experiences I have had as a young adult. The program itself is well organized and reputable. The staff has been with the program for many years and nothing comes to them as a surprise. They know how to make the program worthwhile and they are very sweet and helpful. I truly loved IES and ... - Scripps College View Entire Review
I really learned to appreciate the Spanish culture and the way they live. - University of Michigan - Ann Arbor View Entire Review
I learned a lot about the privileges and freedoms I previously took for granted in the United States. I learned about the importance of leaving your comfort zone in order to learn more about your own values. I feel so privileged to have had this experience to go abroad and I would encourage every student to seize the opportunity... - Trinity University View Entire Review
A greater appreciation of Spanish culture and how it is different/similar to the culture in the US. The experience was worthwhile. - Trinity University View Entire Review
A student studying abroad with IES Abroad: Madrid - IES Abroad in Madrid
I learned a lot about a culture very different from the American culture. I got to know a lot of amazing people and got to know places I thought I would never see. Overall, just having the experience of living alone in such an amazing city, is an something priceless. - Trinity University View Entire Review
Of course it was worthwhile. I got to explore an incredible new city (and country) and really get a hold on the Spanish language. - Tufts University View Entire Review
I learned a lot about the Spanish culture and the city of Madrid! It was definitely worthwhile! - Villanova University View Entire Review
The trip was one of if not the most important experience of my life. Beyond seeing new places, making new friends, and speaking a new language, I gained a new self-awareness during my time abroad. By constantly pushing and testing myself in what I could do, I feel like I have returned an adult with the emotional, physical, menta... - The University of Texas at Austin View Entire Review
Inevitably, I got as close to fluency as I ever will, and a better understanding of Spanish culture. Although I didn't befriend that many native Spaniards, I did make friends for life from the IES program. I learned how to be more spontaneous and open-minded. - The University of Texas at Austin View Entire Review
