I learned self-awareness and characteristics about myself I would not have known without traveling abroad. I learned that I am capable to complete tasks and goals to completion, as well as gaining heightened interpersonal and communication skills. Anngelica Peters - Pennsylvania State University - University Park / Penn State View Entire Review
I learned how to survive in an area where I was not fluent in the language. I also learned how to manage money, which is harder to do when it is a foreign currency that you're not familiar with. I also got better at making friends with people from other parts of the United States and of course, the world (having made friends wit... My experience there was more than worthwhile. I get emotional thinking about the bonds I made with Argentinians, international students, and other American students while I was there. I am fluent in Spanish now, which is so nice. Using Spanish day to day helped me perfect it. I learned that there aren't as many differences as I ... I learned a great deal about Argentina, the Spanish language, myself, and journalism via my internship. A student - Trinity University View Entire Review
It was a great experience to get out of my comfort zone and force myself to adapt to a new culture, location, and language. I grew as a student and as a general person by gaining a much better understanding of what goes on outside of the United States. A student - St. Olaf College View Entire Review
This past summer I studied abroad for 6 weeks in Buenos Aires, Argentina through IES Abroad. From the moment I arrived in the airport until the day I left, I felt supported and encouraged from IES Abroad staff. At the airport, I received an alfajor, and this classic Argentinian snack became my after-lunch dessert everyday—for be... A student - Harvard University View Entire Review
my language and cultural literacy improved, definitely worthwhile ann marie - Case Western Reserve University View Entire Review

I lived with one woman, and her lovely, old perro. She was such a sweet and caring, yet chill and funny woman, and something I can't thank her enough for is opening her arms to make me a part of her family. I would go over her kids' houses for dinner and lunch and her grandkids quickly became my hermanitos. The way I was able to... Peyton Tatonetti - Case Western Reserve University View Entire Review
confidence in speaking spanish, sense of independence. Kristina Hamilton Butler - St. Olaf College View Entire Review
I learned way too much to write in one paragraph! I learned how to handle myself in a new place, how to travel alone or with new people, how to communicate with people when you don't speak their language (I.e. Portuguese in Brazil), and so much more. Alex Hughes - Bentley University View Entire Review
It was absolutely worthwhile. I learned so much about the culture and history of Argentina, and my Spanish and intercultural skills improved. I also learned a lot about myself and what I value. It can be challenging at times, but it was a really positive experience overall. Emily J - Rice University View Entire Review
When I studied abroad in Buenos Aires, Argentina, I went out of my comfort zone and got the most out of the experience. I learned about the culture in Argentina and how people there are so passionate by talking as much as I could with locals and people who have lived in Argentina for a long time. I learned so much about how Ar... A student - Santa Clara University View Entire Review
Absolutely. You learn so much about the history, politics and the local scene and culture. Sounds cliche but its not, you really do learn. Jared A - The University of Texas at Austin View Entire Review
I gained a better understanding of what it is like to be on my own as well as a deeper understanding of the Spanish language. Mostly I became proud that I can speak even the little bit of Spanish that I do have. It was definitely worthwhile! Jeena Piriano - Rhodes College View Entire Review
I learned a lot from my time abroad. I learned how to find my way around a new city and use the subway system! I also learned that I can move to a new city and feel comfortable in it in a few months. I also learned that the best way to learn a language is to be fully immersed in it and speak to your host family a lot. This exper... I improved my spanish skills a lot and it really pushed me outside my comfort zone. It was worthwhile because I met so many people and traveled and learned so much. A student - University of Tulsa View Entire Review
It was incredibly worthwhile. Not only did I drastically improve my language skills, which is very important to me, but I also learned a lot about living in a culture different from your own. I have a very different viewpoint on people who move internationally, and feel like I much more understand what it means to move to a new ... I have been taking Spanish since third grade and I have not seen myself improve until coming to Argentina! I got to interact with local people in my community service project, in weekend trips, and every day in my program! I wouldn't say that my experience transformed me in a huge way like many people do but it made me much more... Jessica Duska - University of Virginia View Entire Review
My experience in Buenos Aires was truly unforgettable. That is a cliche thing to say, I know, as it is said by virtually each and every student who studies abroad. But I truly believe that my time not only in Buenos Aires, but specifically with IES was a special one to say the least. Buenos Aires is a magical city. You have the ... I improved my Spanish skills a considerable amount, and feel comfortable speaking with whomever, native speaker or not. I earned credits toward majors at home, became fully proficient, made tons of friends, and had a great cultural experience. Ian Cook - University of Michigan - Ann Arbor View Entire Review
I loved that I got to practice my Spanish everyday. I also feel much more independent now. I had never lived in a big city before, so learning the public transportation system and how to get around made me feel much more comfortable with traveling. I gained a lot of confidence while living in Buenos Aires. I learned that I can handle living in a foreign country without my family. I was able to experience a completely different culture and improve my Spanish language skills. It was definitely a worthwhile experience. I grew a lot as a person. I think that my experience abroad helped me see things in a different way but also put every situation in perspective and learn how to rationalize, as well as live in a more relaxed way. Not only did I learn many things academically, I also had one of the most incredible social and cultural experience o... Margot N - Duke University View Entire Review
Yes, it was worthwhile. I learned lot of Spanish. My reading comp and writing improved drastically and I got much better at engaging in everyday conversations (even if my grammar is still horrendous), which brought me back to why I wanted to learn the language in the first place.
