Two summer programs are offered – includes housing:
- Irish Studies – held at main campus in Galway
- Irish Language – held in village – An Cheathru Rua
The “Irish Studies” program is held at the University of Galway every summer, and taught by faculty at the University as well as visiting faculty from other universities in Ireland. The program is an integrated introduction to Irish Studies with emphasis on key themes of Identity, Emigration, Religion, and a broad range of elective courses including Irish Language, as well as field trips that complement the courses are also provided. 6 Semester Credits (12 ECTS). Taught in English.
The “Irish Language” program offers beginner – intermediate level language courses at the University’s Irish Language Centre (Arus Mhairtin Ui Chadhain), Carraroe (An Cheathru Rua) in the heart of Connemara (approx 1 hrs from Galway city). Connemara is a major Gaeltacht (Irish speaking district) and endowed with a rich folk tradition. The village of An Cheathru Rua, is an ideal location for learning Irish in its natural environment. 6 Semester Credits (12 ECTS).
