CEA CAPA Education Abroad: London, England

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I gained photography skills through classes, but I also learned a bit of independence while abroad. That was something I wasn't used to. It was definitely worthwhile!

Personal Information

How much international exposure did you have prior to this program? 2 weeks - 1 month

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

It was at first very basic things and then continued to get harder, which challenged me as a student!

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

* Food:

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

I had no health issues

* Safety:

I felt safe and was warned of the overall London safety protocol.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

It was fun! There was always something to do or somewhere to go. I made friends from all around the country.

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

London is pretty expensive so it ended up being a generally more expensive trip.

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? Somewhere between 100-150
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Utilize the local grocery markets and try not to eat out every second! Pubs and Costa coffee can add up in a hurry!

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? No

About how many local friends did you make that you will likely keep in touch with?

A Look Back

* What did you like most about the program?
  • Activities
  • The city!
  • New culture
* What could be improved?
  • Dorms- would have been cool to stay with locals
  • More introduction to the city - what they gave us was helpful, but looking back I probably could have used more
  • More class selection during the summer
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? That adjustment to a new culture, even one that speaks English, would be hard. Going alone would not be necessarily easy and that it is okay to explore things on your own! You don't need someone to travel on a train with you to go somewhere you really want to go!
