University of Northern Iowa: Capstone in Southern Italy

What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
I gained so much knowledge about Italy while getting the chance to experience it at the same time. The trip was amazing and all students need to study abroad. Definitely recommend this trip.

Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

Lots of historic places that were filled with tons of learning experiences.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

Not the best in Salemi or Rome, but really nothing to complain about.

* Food:

Tried some of the best food I've ever had from pizza, pasta, and sandwiches. I can see why Ardigna's is one of Heinzel's favorite restaurants, because it was amazing.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

Lots of friendly people especially in Lipari and Salemi.

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

No issues

* Safety:

Sometimes at nights got a little sketchy, but never felt unsafe

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Wasn't too bad

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? 125 Euros
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? Limit souvenirs then you should be fine, also wait to buy souvenirs towards the end of the trip.

* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? Really what to expect, I was clueless on some things. Also a big thing is how to pack. The biggest thing I wish I knew was that majority of places only take cash and not cards.
