Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

The workload was set up well, as most of it could be accomplished during the semester prior to leaving for Chile so that only finishing touches needed to happen to our paper and presentation in country.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The Austral Group helped set everything up in the country and take us to the different field trips. The group leader was very helpful with all questions that students had as well as providing us with information regarding background about the companies and talks we received.

* Housing:

How satisfied were you with your living arrangements?

We stayed in a hotel that was near a supermarket and the metro. The hotel was clean and staff extremely helpful. The hotel was in a nice neighborhood close to dining as well as shopping.

* Food:

At the hotel we received breakfast everyday and had two dinners as a group that the course fees covered. Every time we ate there was more than enough food. The Austral group also put together a list of places to eat that they recommended which was nice to have.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

Santiago was very safe, especially for the area we were in. I would recommend being very mindful of your belongs and surroundings, and not to wear flashy jewelery. Men should also put their wallet in their front pocket. I felt just as safe walking around Santiago as I would in New York City or any other big city in the US.

If you could do it all over again would you choose the same program? Yes

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

A Look Back

* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? The program is a wonderful experience and an excellent way to visit South America. I would highly recommend the program. It is a great way to learn about and visit a country or area that might not be on the top of your list to visit.
