I took all of my classes at Spanish universities. The workload tends to be end-heavy; homework is uncommon, and the final exam tends to hold huge weight for your final grade in the class. Group work was eye opening in that it greatly improved my Spanish language skills and forced me to collaborate with students from around the world. view full review

Too much work for an abroad program. We all wanted to travel and experience Europe and Barcelona where we were living and IES piled on the work. Workload was heavy at times but manageable, sometimes hard to play the part of a dedicated student and a tourist wanting to experience city to its fullest when worrying about class. Overall learned a lot in both classes, Spanish 302 and Politics in Spain. Took field trips/studies and the professors were very knowledgeable in their fields. As far as workload goes, some classes had a lot of work and others not so much. It's kind of a toss up. The grading system is fair. The Spanish teachers are amazing. The local teachers have no reasoning ability. The American teachers know how to hold an American classroom environment and the locals class room structure is very different than an American is used to .The attendance policies in the local teachers classes are very strict and hold no respect for the American students "they know everything" kind of mentality view full review

The workload was definitely manageable. I took a history class taught in Spanish which meant all texts were written in Spanish, all papers had to be written in Spanish and you were expected to communicate in Spanish. Absolutely--I believe everyone should have the chance to study abroad, whether it is for a semester, or even three weeks. The experience, even at its worst moments, is an excellent learning experiences and without a doubt, fun! view full review

The workload seemed fair but the grading system was difficult to get used to. We never really got grades on the things we turned in so I never knew where I stood in the class. view full review

it was defiantly worthwhile. it was the best experience of my life i would do it all over again. it helped me understand different cultures from all over the world and the differences in American life style compared to European. view full review

It was completely worthwhile. I met some people who stayed in all the time on skype or watching tv shows. I think that the experience is what you make of it. Living here for a year has made this city a home to me and I've adapted to the culture and way of life. I've learned a lot about myself and so far, the best decision I've ever made. view full review

yes, it was worthwhile because any experience is worthwhile. i was able to live in another country for a semester and travel around all of europe, that alone is worthwhile. i was able to observe what culture is, what real food is, and appreciate how history has shaped each of the locations that i visited. view full review

My abroad experience was terrific, and I remember it fondly almost daily. I found the fellow Americans on the IES Barcelona program not to my liking, generally, but I still had an outstanding time. view full review

I have completely changed and it was 100% worth the money and time for the whole experience. Just do it and don't regret it. You meet great people and learn a lot while seeing the world. You'll learn more than you think about yourself too. All I want to do is go back- it goes by way too fast. view full review
