What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile?
First and foremost, I learned how to be a self-starter. Your study abroad experience--such as how many new people you meet, how many places you travel to, and how much you learn about a new culture--is dependent on how proactive you are. While studying abroad fine-tuned my ability to live independently, I more greatly value my knowledge of how to be a self-starter. Studying abroad also taught me self-reliance, which in turn gave me the confidence to do knew things. For example, I had never travelled before going to DIS, but their study breaks allowed me the time to travel across Europe. I had to learn to create an itinerary, find transportation, figure out currency rates and be a traveler. Traveling made me stand on my own two feet; it forced me to rely on myself to solve the problems and challenges that inevitably came my way.
