This program is designed for students who want to study Kiswahili language and learn firsthand about Tanzania and its people through CIEE courses at the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM). Through a combination of CIEE and UDSM language and area studies courses and CIEE excursions and community-engagement opportunities, students gain a better understanding of Tanzania and its important role in East Africa.

Program Snapshot

* Live in vibrant Dar es Salaam and study and live at the top university in Tanzania
* Take advantage of the Kiswahili Language and Culture Practicum and the opportunities for volunteering and for-credit internships with local schools and organizations
* Enroll in Kiswahili language course and choose elective courses from a specialized group of courses focusing on East Africa and Tanzania in Development Studies, History, Political Science, and Literature
* Become familiar with Tanzania’s local culture and natural resources through local and regional excursions, Zanzibar, and national parks
