Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

they were always available to talk to or to ask for help, but they were pretty disorganized when it came to dealing with the host university.

* Housing:

i loved my host senora. she told amazing stories, helped me with my spanish and was always available either to ask for help or to just hang out with.

i loved my senora, but her apartment was about a 40 minute commute from the university.

* Food:

my senora was a great cook, but the spanish just dont eat a lot of vegetables.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

How integrated did you feel with the local culture?

there is an unlimited amount of socially based things to do in barcelona

* Health Care:

How well were health issues addressed during the program?

* Safety:

i never had cause to seek medical attention. as for safety, pick-pocketing is really common in barcelona so you always had to be on your guard about that.

* Home Institution Advising:

How well did Tufts University prepare and support you for your time abroad?

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Not including program expenses, about how much money did you spend on food and other expenses each week? i didnt spend much on food because i usually ate dinner at home. most of my money went towards going out at night.
Do you have any general money-saving tips for future study abroad participants? metro passes tend to add up quickly, but you can buy them in bulk for cheaper.

Language

Language acquisition improvement?

by the end of my abroad program i considered myself fluent in spanish

A Look Back

* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? learn some catalan beforehand.
* What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile? it was worthwhile, but i was homesick for a pretty good portion. it was an amazing opportunity though and i don't regret going.
