Review Your Program

* Overall educational experience

Academic rigor, intensity, resources, etc.

Everything was extremely fair. There was never a strenuous amount of work, work was graded fairly and returned promptly. All of the teachers were kind and understanding.

* Host Country Program Administration

On-site administration of your program

The support of our API advisor (Maria) was amazing. I felt like I had a home away from home and felt comfortable going to her with any problem. She was willing to bend over backwards for any one of us in the program. She was very generous towards all of us and went above and beyond to help us. She is an incredible asset to API.

* Housing:

* Food:

My host mother tried to accommodate our dietary preferences in every way.

* Social & Cultural Integration:

* Safety:

* Home Institution Advising:

How well did University of Maine - Orono prepare and support you for your time abroad?

Finances

* Money: How easily were you able to live on a student's budget?

(1 = not very easy/$200+ on food & personal expenses/week, 2.5 = $100/week, 5 = very easily/minimal cost)

Language

* Did your program have a foreign language component? Yes
If applicable, to what degree did your living situation aid your language acquisition?

Language acquisition improvement?

We were fully encouraged to speak the foreign language. Professors expected it but understood when we had trouble. API advisors encouraged us to speak the language but if we preferred not to or had trouble they would speak english without hesitation. It was a positive and encouraging learning environment.

A Look Back

* If you could do it all over again, would you choose the same program? Yes
* What do you know now that you wish you knew before going on this program? Go to a smaller city and less populated city. Go somewhere that is not americanized and is not a distinguished tourist destination. Go somewhere authentic and take advantage of every opportunity you find.
* What did you gain/learn from your experience abroad? Was it worthwhile? It was the best decision I have ever made to go and study in a foreign country. I have grown up immensely and have a greater understanding of cultures and other countries aside from my own.
