Building on a quarter-century of academic excellence, the AHA International Humanities program in the London Centre offers multi-disciplinary courses in the liberal arts and humanities. Each course places an important emphasis on experiential learning, transforming the entire city of London into your classroom by incorporating several local outings and excursions. Courses take advantage of the world class galleries and museums like the National Portrait Gallery, Tate Modern, the Cabinet War Rooms, the Churchill Museums and of course the British Museum, which is just a short walk from the AHA London Centre. Each term, students have the opportunity to experience London’s rich theater options from the West End productions to smaller, fringe productions with big name actors like Sir Ian McKellen, Dame Judi Dench, and Sir Patrick Stewart. In addition to taking courses at the AHA London Centre, students also have the option of enrolling in a course at a British University.

Its always worthwhile to spend time in another country, even if its not too different from the U.S. From London it's really easy to get out and see Europe. view full review

I learned that the world is very big and takes all kinds to make the world go round. I'm still figuring out what I learned from my experience, but I know the lessons I learned about life will stick with me forever. Studying abroad has made me a stronger person. The type of student who would benefit most from this program is someone who is motivated to learn. While it can be easy to just ride along on the experience of simply being here, if you are someone who likes art, architecture, history, or politics, and your are willing ask questions and start these conversations, you will discover so much and really form a relationship wit... view full review

Through descriptions of classes and initial meetings there was nothing that stood out to make these classes seem very different from the classes at home but eventually learning through action became a pattern. The academics were very similar to any US school system - you get out what you put in. If you read the books, attended class (both at the school and on excursions outside of class), and used enough of your free time on homework then the teacher gave you an appropriate grade. I learned that the UK is very different from USA, but still has similarities. I enjoyed London because it was easy to live about the country and learn all about the UK because I was able to see so many sites I had learned about my whole life. The housing situation was pretty terrible and the bars close at 12. The beer was pretty bad on the whole and if you did find a decent ale, it was served at room temperature. It was interesting to be a part of the London culture, but I'm pretty sure it's not a place for me.
