Each of the five campuses of the University of KwaZulu-Natal has its own personality reflecting the kaleidoscopic community that shapes it. Since the end of apartheid the university has steadily increased its proportion of non-White students, including Black South African, Indian and Colored students, who now make up more than seventy percent of the student population. The primarily residential Pietermaritzburg campus will enable you to integrate quickly both inside and outside of the classroom. The campus is located in the shady, tree-lined suburb of Scottsville, a 20-minute walk from the center of Pietermaritzburg.

In South Africa, people are much more comfortable talking about race and social issues regarding race. I had so many good conversations with various people about race and have learned so much from them. My study abroad experience was definitely worthwhile. I learned how to cope with culture shock and to understand new cultures. I wish I had learned the local language and travelled more throughout South Africa. Overall, I had an amazing time and I would love to visit the country again in the future. view full review

YES! The most worthwhile, amazing experience of my life! I gained so many things from it, I don't even know where to start. Through volunteering at a children's home I learned so much about poverty, loss, and tragedy, but also joy in the midst of troubles.
