The Hebrew University of Jerusalem's Rothberg International School offers a variety of programs, from a few short weeks to an entire academic year studying in Israel!

At the Rothberg School, the program includes an Ulpan, Hebrew language instruction, courses in English, the chance to study Arabic, extracurricular activities, on-campus housing, financial aid, and an almost certain guarantee to have the time of your life! Programs are available for undergraduate and graduate students.

Sustained Academic Excellence
Welcoming international students since 1955, the Rothberg School offers courses for every kind of student: Middle Eastern Studies, Business, History, Psychology, Neuroscience, Religion, and more.
These courses can be taken in English or Hebrew.

Independent study courses and internships are available as well. Since 2010, we have offered Spring in Jerusalem: Honors Program, a joint initiative with Harvard University. The program allows academically promising undergraduates to take a number of courses taught in English or in Hebrew at The Hebrew University faculties.

Arabic Immersion Program
Opening in Spring 2012 is a new Arabic Immersion program designed for undergraduate students, graduate students and professionals interested in acquiring a knowledge of Modern Standard Arabic. The program is based on the principle of total immersion – the constant and exclusive use of a language in its native social and cultural environment. Studies combine formal classes, interaction with native speakers outside the classroom and exposure to the religious and cultural elements that have left their indelible mark on the Arabic language.

Unique Opportunities in the Arts
Students will come together with the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, as well as the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design Jerusalem, to create a study abroad experience unique to Israel and the world. Each program will combine their specialized offerings along with a broad selection of university courses in Israel and Middle Eastern Studies, Religion, Behavioral Sciences and Environmental Studies, as well as Hebrew Language.

Summer Options
You can learn Modern or Biblical Hebrew, Modern Standard or Colloquial Arabic, choose from a wide array of intensive programs where you can learn about Israel, the Middle East, Environmental studies, or participate in an archaeological dig or an internship. From Israeli film to Jewish mysticism, from conflict resolution to public law – there is something for everyone!

Graduate Programs
RIS also offers six MA degree programs in English, as well as a semester or year visiting option for full- and part-time graduate level students. Masters Degree programs include Israel Studies; Society and Politics with a specialization in The Study of Political Violence and Terrorism; Community Leadership and Philanthropy Studies; and Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies.

While our school is in Israel, our office is in New York, and we'd be happy to answer any questions you may have. Our toll free number is (800) 404-8622. Or, if you're calling from abroad you can reach us at (212) 607-8520. We look forward to hearing from you soon and seeing you next year in Jerusalem!

I enjoy feeling like more of a resident than a tourist in this country - I did not come to Israel to discover something new, but rather to live and feel comfortable in Jerusalem, which I think I have accomplished. Also, I enjoyed the relationship between my classes and the location - for example, I took a class about the architecture of Jerusalem, which involved several...

I had a lot of time and opportunities to travel all around Israel and experience diverse geographic areas while meeting many different people, having some of the most incredible experiences of my life. Also, getting to know a city like Jerusalem that is so different from New York was an exciting and rewarding experience.

Having the opportunity to travel, being close to members of my family I don't get to see often, taking classes with field trips to the exact places we were studying (e.g. archaeology classes with field trips in Jerusalem)

Traveling -- I traveled all over the country, touring, hiking, visiting friends and family, etc. I really got to know the country -- I will never go back there as a tourist; Israel has really become a second home to me. My study abroad experience also helped open my eyes to how lucky I am and to just how much I get to experience -- I feel like I am coming back to Barnard...

Feeling part of Israeli society. I learned so much about Israel as a country and the Israeli people- they are not just faces you see on TV mourning for victims of terror, they have hopes and dreams and families and play sports and go to movies. I loved meeting all kinds of people and becoming part of their society.
