Uruguay is a country located in the southeastern part of South America. It is home to approximately 3.5 million people, 88% of which are of European decent. Uruguay is also one of the most economically developed countries in South America. The economy is largely based on agriculture and boasts a low corruption rate. In 2007, it became the first South American country to legalize same-sex and different-sex civil unions at a national level.
