This program is geared to students who have completed at least five semesters of French study or are at the high intermediate or advanced level in their language study. Students should have an interest in a critical approach to contemporary French thought in the fields of literature, film, philosophy, art, and aesthetics.

Program Snapshot:
-Focus on French theory in cinema, the arts, writing, and critical thought
-Study entirely in French, with a strong emphasis on the French intellectual tradition and emergent thought
-Enroll in the Université Sorbonne Nouvelle Paris 3 or the Université de Paris Diderot allowing direct engagement in Parisian intellectual life
-Visit to exhibits, film festivals, and lectures and take day excursions to places near Paris and academically-structured weekend excursions to other French destinations

The workload and grading system was not bad at all. I was blessed to be placed with professors who had a real knack for teaching. My professors, in fact, aided in making the experience worthwhile. view full review

I loved it. Im so happy I went abroad. I missed Providence sometimes while i was abroad but going abroad was one of the best experiences of my life. All the teachers and kids were great and I created life long friendships while abroad. view full review

I have become a different person after coming from Paris. I remember thinking I wasn't able to do any of this before my departure, and now look at where I am. I can't say enough how much I have learned about the French culture, which is so incredibly unique from the American culture, and I have so much more to experience. I have learned more about myself, become more independent, and made lifelong friends. There's nothing better than losing yourself in a culture and realizing that along the way you've gained so much more than you'd ever thought possible. I have gained a new sense of self. I'm more confidant. I feel I know myself better. I feel very fulfilled. My French has improved, but it could have improved so much more, but I have been enriched in other ways. I have had a life-changing experience. view full review

The teachers at CIEE were phenominal! They were so willing to help their students and really catered to each individual's personal needs (focused on improving their weaknesses). I was surprised how much they used class discussions on a daily basis! It really helped to improve my oral communication skills! view full review

Two of my classes were in french (and the professors only spoke french, albeit slowly) and the others were in english. The classes in french focused on the language, and the classes in english focused on history and culture. The professors were very enthusiastic, and had varying levels of teaching experience. view full review

The French language classes, and the other classes taught in French, improved my French skills greatly. Taking several classes in a foreign language, as well as having to use the language outside the classroom, increased my proficiency at a remarkable speed. view full review

My study abroad experience was amazing! Not only did I learn so much through my academic experience and travel, I learned a lot about myself.
