Alicante: A slice of heaven to study in!

I saw great and new aspects of family life and a social norm unlike the typical suburban culture found in america. I have always loved to travel and I admit studying abroad was a great excuse for me to visit over 7 new countries and locations. This summer I will be applying to mostly interships out of the country. view full review

I think this program is perfect for those who have never traveled extensively or live near a coast. I think also students that willing to apply themselves could benefit from this program too because this program easily sets you up with interaction with Spanish students to improve your language skills. view full review

CIEE Alicante was my family away from the US.

I am much more culturally sensitive. And I now hate airplanes. BUT I'm glad I did it and I'm very happy with CIEE. I wish I had a better time with advising for abroad. I'm glad I choose CIEE but I feel like my abroad advisor gave me ZERO support while I was here and before I came here. If you are considering this program, then you have made a great choice. Alicante is not like Barcelona or Madrid. It is a smaller beach town. Do not expect the nightlife to be as crazy as it is in Barcelona. It is mainly bars. It will be more expensive to travel to other countries since all flights usually connect to Barcelona or Madrid. Hogueras is awesome-- make sure to stay in town for it. But for all of the other weekends when it's possible you should travel because as great as sitting on the beach is, there's only so much you can get out of it. It was a great experience. It was a good balance of school and work. However I feel that we spent too much to and from school some times 1 to 2 hours going to school and back that was 4 hours out my day that I wasn't doing anything but sitting on the bus. view full review

If you want to have an experience where you are completely immersed in Spanish culture and really want to learn the language and what life is like in Spain then I would suggest this program. You will make friends with the other Americans in your program but also with Spaniards who will help you discover more about Spain. view full review

Learning the Language without going to Clubs

I chose this one because of the homestay option. I don't like to go partying and this way I would be able to use the language and hear it all the time without placing myself in an uncomfortable location. view full review

My study abroad experience was very worthwhile. It was my first time in Europe and I feel like I got a good feel for Spanish culture. I wish I could have stayed longer and learned more Spanish. I really want to continue improving my spanish, it made me realize how important and amazing it is to be able to communicate in 2 different languages, It really opens up so many opportunities. The workload was fairly decent...not too much that wasn't expected. The grading system is a little different in Spain, but it was a great experience as well. They have a harder grading scale. view full review
